TCB Supports Sports Development in Songwe Region.

The Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) has donat ed sports equipment, including jerseys and balls, to Songwe Region in an effort to boost the growth of sports in the area.  

Speaking on behalf of the bank's Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Mihayo, Simon Mlelwa, the Manage r of TCB Mwanjelwa Branch in Mbeya Region, said they received a request for sports equipment to promote sports development in the region.  



"As TCB, we have a practice of giving back to the community to address various challenges affectin g our society," Mlelwa said. He added that through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the bank focuses on health, education, and social welfare.  

Receiving the equipment, Songwe Regional Com missioner Daniel Chongolo commended TCB for their support and highlighted that Songwe, being a newly established region, faces multiple challen ges and needs additional assistance to achieve its goals.  

"As regional leaders, we have a responsibility to lay strong foundations so that one day we can have a team from Songwe competing in the Tanz ania Premier League," Chongolo said.



Last week, he met with the Songwe Regional Foo tball Association to discuss strategies to enhance sports and ensure it becomes part of the daily live s of the region's residents.  

Julius Mlang’a, Manager of TCB Tunduma Branch in Songwe, said their contribution stems from rec ognizing the importance of sports for health, stre ss relief, and as an avenue for employment.

 "TCB has donated sports equipment worth TZS 17.5 million to support knowledge-building in sch ools, talent development, and fostering good mor als among youth," Mlang’a explained.  



Songwe Regional Sports Officer, Mtaka Chibwi, thanked TCB, emphasizing that the equipment would aid in promoting sports in schools and nurturing young talent to eventually have a region al team competing in the Tanzania Premier League.  

“The regional commissioner has emphasized the goal of having a team from Songwe in the Premier League. These tools will also help in nurturing tale nts in primary and secondary schools,” Chibwi added.  

The initiative begins with regional leagues to esta blish a team representing Songwe in national com petitions.
